Technical Description

The Kayama KRES100C Solid State Relay SSR is an electronic device designed to switch alternating-current (AC) loads through a direct-current (DC) control signal.

The model features a 3–32 VDC control input, 24–380 VAC output and stated rated current of up to 100 A, allowing integration into compatible professional electrical control and automation systems.

By using semiconductor components in the power circuit, the KRES100C switches the load without conventional electromechanical output contacts, making it suitable for repetitive switching applications when correctly electrically and thermally sized.

Operating Principle

The KRES100C switches the load using semiconductor components without conventional electromechanical contacts at the output.

When a compatible signal is applied to the control input, the internal electronic circuit operates the power stage, allowing the connected load to be switched.

This eliminates mechanical contact wear but requires proper electrical and thermal design.

3–32 VDC Control Input

The control input is specified for 3 to 32 VDC.

This range allows potential integration with PLCs, industrial controllers and other compatible electronic interfaces.

Before connection, verify output voltage, available current, polarity, output architecture and SSR input requirements.

A control voltage falling within the specified range alone does not guarantee compatibility with every controller.

Integration with PLCs and Controllers

The KRES100C can be used with compatible DC outputs from PLCs and industrial controllers.

Verify:

  • controller output type;
  • output voltage;
  • available current;
  • PNP or NPN architecture when applicable;
  • polarity;
  • SSR triggering requirements.

Use a suitable intermediate interface if the controller output cannot directly drive the SSR.

24–380 VAC Output

The output is specified for switching loads supplied from 24 to 380 VAC.

Therefore:

  • 3–32 VDC is the control circuit;
  • 24–380 VAC is the power circuit.

The DC control input does not mean the relay output is suitable for DC loads.

100 A Rated Current

The KRES100C has a stated rated current of up to 100 A.

Actual usable current depends on load type, continuous current, surge current, ambient temperature, enclosure conditions, switching frequency, duty cycle and thermal dissipation.

Applications near 100 A require particular attention to thermal design.

Thermal Dissipation

Solid state relays generate heat while conducting current.

For this reason, proper thermal management is essential, particularly at high currents.

Depending on actual operating conditions, a correctly sized heat sink may be required.

Heat-sink selection should consider actual current, ambient temperature, ventilation, duty cycle, switching frequency and enclosure conditions.

Derating

Maximum allowable current may need to be reduced under adverse thermal conditions such as high ambient temperatures, poor ventilation or continuous operation.

This reduction is known as derating.

High-current applications should be designed using the specific thermal information available for the device.

Load Characteristics

SSR behavior depends on the connected load.

Resistive loads differ from motors, transformers, solenoids, capacitive loads and electronic power supplies.

Loads with high inrush current require special consideration and should not be sized solely according to normal operating current.

Resistive Heating Applications

The KRES100C may be considered for properly sized control of:

  • heating resistors;
  • electric ovens;
  • heating chambers;
  • heating systems;
  • automated thermal processes.

Electrical load and thermal conditions must be verified before installation.

Optical Isolation

The product has stated internal optical isolation, providing functional separation between the control and power circuits.

No specific isolation voltage should be claimed without technical documentation confirming that value.

LED Indicator

The KRES100C has a stated LED indicator to assist with visual identification of the control signal status.

The LED should never be used as the sole indication that the power circuit is de-energized.

Switching Frequency

Solid-state technology allows repetitive operation without mechanical contact wear.

However, maximum switching frequency should not be assumed to be unlimited and can depend on load characteristics, thermal conditions, control system and network frequency.

Zero-Cross Switching

Some AC solid-state relays use zero-cross switching technology.

This feature has not been confirmed in the available information for the KRES100C and therefore should not be published as a model specification without supporting documentation.

Failure State and Safety

Semiconductor devices may fail in different ways, including conditions where the output remains conductive.

For critical systems, independent interruption and safety devices should be provided.

The KRES100C should not be used alone as a functional safety component.

Electrical Protection

The KRES100C does not replace:

  • circuit breakers;
  • fuses;
  • surge protection devices;
  • load protection;
  • machine safety devices;
  • required disconnecting equipment.

Protection must be designed according to the power supply, load and installation.

Mounting

The product is specified for panel mounting.

Installation should provide proper mechanical fastening, ventilation, heat dissipation, wiring and access for maintenance.

Installation and Maintenance

Installation should be performed by technically qualified personnel.

Before energizing, confirm the control voltage, load voltage, current, load characteristics, protective devices, thermal dissipation and electrical connections.

Before maintenance, disconnect the circuit, confirm absence of voltage and allow the SSR and heat sink to cool.

Compatibility

The KRES100C may be integrated with Kayama or other manufacturers' equipment provided that electrical compatibility is verified.

Check control voltage, input current, load voltage, load current, load characteristics, switching rate, control logic and thermal conditions.

Kayama Quality

The Kayama KRES100C Solid State Relay is part of Kayama's professional range for electronic switching, electrical control and automation, combining a DC control input with an AC power output.
